    To celebrate the 101st National Convention of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People.
  • NAACP National ACT-SO Competition - July 8 - 12, Kansas City, MO
    Afro- Academic, Cultural, Technological, Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) is a national competition showcasing the talents of the youth.
  • 22nd Juneteenth Celebration - Saturday, June 19, Howard Brown Park, Norwich, CT, free and open to the public.
    Celebration commemorating June 19, 1 865, when the slaves in Texas first received word they were free and the presentation of the Danny Jenkins Memorial Award which is given in memory of Lieutenant Danny Jenkins and his commitment to improving race relationships in the City of Norwich. In addition, he was the first Chairperson for the Juneteenth Celebration in the State of CT.
  • Bi-Annual Health Fair and Blood Drive - Early June, Downtown Norwich, free and open to the public
    Partnerships with healthcare agencies, organizations and families to promote wellness and better health in African-Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities.

  • Health Reform and Job Creation - Congressman John Conyers came to Norwich on February 17th to discuss the Health Reform and Job Creation. This is part of the Crime, Court And Community Series for 2010.

  • 1st Freedom Fund Dinner, "The Bridge from Yesterday to the Future", Thursday May 14th, 6:00 pm, Norwich Free Academy
  • Norwich Branch NAACP Fourth Annual Food For The Soul and Food For The Mind African-American Film Festival was held on March 20 2009 at Olympic Pizza, 372 West Main Norwich. It was sponsored by the Sayet & Seder Law Firm and the Norwich Branch of the NAACP.
  • Sweet Potato Festival Celebrated Black History Month, February 28, 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM, United Congregational Church located at 87 Broadway Norwich,directly across the street from Norwich City Hall. Menu included: Baked and BBQ Chicken, Black eyed Peas and Rice, Collard Greens, Baked Macaroni, Mashed sweet Potatoes, Corn Bread and Peach Cobbler for Dessert. View Photos »
  • New England Regional Violence Prevention Summit, Thursday February 5 and Friday February 6, Foxwoods Resort Casino.
  • Student Art and Research Exhibit, January 16 - 31, Norwich Free Academy Converse Art Gallery. The theme was John Fox Slater and Historical Black Colleges: "Giving for Equity". In recognition and honour of the Centennial Celebration, High School Students presented Artwork and Research Papers. Area high, middle and elementary schools were invited. Free and Open to the Public.
  • The Dr Martin Luther King Jr Luncheon on Friday January 16 at the Norwich Free Academy Sidney Frank Center. Celebration of the Birthday of Dr Martin Luther King Jr and Presentation of the Robertsine Duncan Memorial Award, the First Youth Advisor for the Norwich NAACP Youth Council.
